Speaker Biography
Dr Shama Rahman is a scientist, artist and creative technologist who holds a PhD in the neuroscience and complex systems of Creative Cognition and Innovation, conducted jointly at the Department of Physics at Imperial College London, the Centre for Computation Culture and Cognition at Goldsmiths London and advisors from the Royal College of Music.
As Founder and CEO of creative health neurotech startup NeuroCreate, she uses a mixture of AI and neuroscience to enhance cognition. NeuroCreate has been selected as one of the Top 100 CreaTech companies by the Creative Industries Council. Dr Rahman has won Creative Visionary of the Year at the AthenaX Awards, been named as one of the Top 20 most inspirational women in Tech by TechRound, and shortlisted as AI Innovator at the AI Summit and Entrepreneur of the Year by the Olympic Legacy.
As an artist, her work has encompassed the use of wearable technology to enhance storytelling. She is a composer and multi-instrumentalist and was the first Sitarist Explorer to perform in Antarctica on the first ever Antarctic Biennale. She was the lead of South East Asia’s first supernatural detective 24-part drama thriller. Her multidisciplinary practice has led her to be the Artistic Director of the Art/Science creative production agency Jugular Productions, producing interdisciplinary shows, salons, installations, immersive experiences and games.
She is currently Innovation Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Futures Institute and the Generative AI Laboratory where her expertise lies in AI/Human collaborative systems and interaction design. She is particularly interested in validating the impact within healthier longer lives and the future of work
